Track and Field: We are pleased to announce that our senior boys 4 x 100 relay came in 5th out of 115 on Tuesday, April 19th, at the Penn Relays. Eric Jones, Matthew Wetzel, Andrew Licci and Jalen Wilkinson will return to the Penn Relay competition on Friday. Coach Nichols claims that the thought of missing class on Friday was the incentive to run so fast. It could have been the support their teammates demonstrated by their attendence at the relays. Many thanks to all who worked to bring out the best in our boys!
Cross Country: On behalf of our (3) National championship caliber runners, their families and our entire Cross Country Program, I want to thank everyone (our parish, school and XC family) for all the notes and words of encouragement as we journeyed to Nashville to compete on the grand stage.
Your runners did not disappoint you!!
Our runners joined their Phila CYO teammates for meetings and some practice on Friday, followed by a healthy pasta dinner. As the day broke on Saturday, it was clear that for the first time in weeks we would be running in dry (but cold) conditions (30's). The organization chose an interesting "steeplechase" course for this year's meet and it was praised for its layout and friendliness for fans to view the races.
In the largest field in years, our St. Andrew's runners stepped up to the challenge.
Hannah Bierling finished 23rd in her age group.
Declan Quinn finished 17th in his age group.
Maggie Quigley finished 28th in her age group.
Their times were outstanding!!
They faced large teams from Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma, Indiana, Kentucky and smaller teams from many, many other states.
We then joined the entire CYO team at a Saturday evening mass (5:00pm) where the pastor praised our Program and children for their dedication and team spirit. The entire congregation gave them a resounding ovation.
We then enjoyed dinner in downtown Nashville (no sightings of Kenny Chesney or Miley Cyrus!).
Our runners then spent a few hours bonding with their new friends and CYO teamates on Saturday evening before a well deserved rest.
Overall, it was a great experience for our runners and once again we want to thank everyone for the support.
